Apple's Post-Steve Jobs Era

Haven't written anything for a while. Laziness is one thing. After resting for a while, it gets tougher for me to write blog post in Chinese. So, I decided to write this one in English. Not that it has better quality. Just more fluent in terms of flow of ideas. If I write any bad English, please bear with me.

When I first read the news of Steve Jobs resignation on Thursday, I was quite sad. It wasn't shocking to me because you know this day would come, sooner or later. After all, this has been his third long sick leave and we all can see his body deteriorating. His resignation indicates he is no longer able to carry the duty of a CEO. He has to sit back and let others to pick up what he's left. I am sure if he stay healthy, he will keep marveling us with his amazing keynotes for a few more years, given that he is still "only" 56. In any case, I wish him health.

While I find the resignation saddening, I have confidence in Apple that they will continue to innovate and provide fascinating products for the upcoming years. Like Shawn Blanc said, Steve Jobs has built a culture in the company that resemble his characters. The people inside may not have the vision Steve has. But they do have the craftsmanship, and quality-focus mind set to deliver. I believe the teams that produce the iDevices and Mac would continue to execute.

On the other hand, if we look at the products Apple has released in the pass 10 years as a whole, there is a trend, a roadmap. Think about the transition from iPod to iPhone to iPad, and Macbook to Macbook Air. Rather than trying to hit the jackpot with each new product, I believe Apple has been educating the mass, directing them toward what they believe should be the ultimate computing experience. Steve Jobs' visionary is well known. He may already have that being in mind. There may even be chance that the prototype of that being already exists somewhere in Apple campus. Just think about how long has iPad been under development.

As long as the vision is still in view, with the teams that have given us high-quality and innovative products, they will be fine.

Daniel:「兩架,因為其他都在路軌上。」

我和娘子:「...」

估你唔到。
